The Scottish Toy Soldier Company - ECW cavalryman & Barbary pirates
Review taken from 'Casting Around'
A first mention in this column for the Scottish Toy Soldier Company, as owner of the business, Bill Skinner recently sent me some of his new castings.
There’s an English Civil War cavalryman, described as a Parliamentarian although cavalry on both sides wore similar dress and equipment. I assume there’s a Royalist wearing the familiar ‘Cavalier’ broad brimmed hat to come. The figure is in the classic toy soldier style, cast with a separate right arm, but it is nicely detailed and a troop of these carefully painted in gloss would be impressive.
The other castings from Bill are four Barbary pirates, all one piece castings, and these are quite different, being full of action and character, in fact a decidedly motley crew and definitely great fun. I don’t know if there are more of these to come but I do hope so.
The castings measure 54mm approximately although the Barbary pirates are slightly chunkier. The ECW cavalryman costs £5.00, including P&P (Four cavalry painted in gloss and boxed cost £32.00, including P&P). The Barbary pirates cost £3.00 each, including P&P (Four pirates painted in gloss and boxed cost £17.99, including P&P). This seems very good value for money in these financially troubled times.
