All the King’s Men - American War of Independence British

Review taken from 'Casting Around'

The strong similarities between the uniforms worn during the American War of Independence allow for a lot of conversion opportunities and Ken Cliffe has been exploiting them, alongside some new sculpting, to extend his AWI range with dedicated British troops.

Ken’s new British line infantry are conversions of his existing marching infantryman, now featuring British high winter gaiters, a goat-fur backpack, and a tin canteen. New British light infantry are conversions of one the existing ‘lights’, with the brim removed from the distinctive hat. In place of a drummer there is a bugler, with a separate arm needing only simple attachment.

There are also Highlanders. The officer wears a kilt but other ranks wear gaiter-trousers, common late into the war, and they all wear tam o’shanters. The officer is a totally new sculpt while the other ranks are conversions. Tony Aldrich is the ingenious sculptor of the new offerings.

In an earlier review of AKTM releases, before dedicated British troops were being mentioned, I suggested it would be useful to have some British Grenadier heads wearing the characteristic fur caps for converting infantry figures. In fact Ken is going further than that and Grenadiers in fur caps will be coming soon to reinforce the other new British types.

All the AKTM castings measure 54mm approx and are supplied unpainted in bagged sets, as follows: Infantry and Highlanders – officer, colour bearer and 12 soldiers for $35 USD; Light infantry – officer, bugler and 6 soldiers for $25 USD. For orders up to $50.00, shipping costs are approximately $7 USD or less per set, assuming a Continental US customer (rates drop per set according to the size of the order) Contact Ken about shipping costs to the UK.

Ken makes no secret of the fact that his figures are for playing with and he’s recently updated the wargame rules on his website, to provide for generals becoming casualties. So it seems it’s now more dangerous to be a “hands on” general in action with your troops.
