Waterloo 1815 - Prussian Infantry 1815

Review taken from 'Fantastic Plastics'

What are the odds of two sets of Napoleonic Prussian infantry coming out within weeks of each other? The second set comes from the small Italian maker Waterloo 1815, better known for 1/72 scale figures. It’s good to see them making more 1/32 scale figures, even if they have chosen a set which repeats the AIP sets of a couple of months ago.

The set sent to me for review was pre-production in pale grey plastic, and they may be a different colour in production. The plastic is quite hard and cuts cleanly. There are 14 figures, with one pleasant surprise, a mounted officer which is a nice touch. Some collectors may complain, given that it means a mounted officer for every 13 men, but as AIP don’t do one then there is the perfect home for the extra ones!

There are seven poses for the men, in twos, with one pose only once – a marching figure that would make a good drummer to fill in this otherwise missing role. The figures have an appearance reminiscent of the Italeri Austrian infantry, but are not as crisply sculpted (though this may be down to them being pre-production – Steve Weston says at least one pose is being re-detailed). A quick check against some reference and the uniforms look right. The men have gaiters rather than boots, but the buttons could be easily trimmed off for boots if preferred. The magnificent full colour box illustration (by G Rava, surely the best in this field) shows line infantry. They could be painted as Fusiliers, and with the muskets cut down, as Jägers. Shakos are in covers, and bayonets fixed, with no scabbards as was the custom in the Prussian army at the time.
