The East of India Company - Parthian Horse Archers

Review taken from 'New Releases Part 2'

Ken Clarke-Jervoise, owner of the East of India Company, got in touch just before Christmas with details of the latest additions to his ancients range. I first met Ken, over shall we say a ‘few’ drinks, whilst at the Chicago show seven or so years ago. I’ve always admired Ken’s passion for life, something which is reflected in his range of figures.

These latest releases depict the Parthians, and as I am no expert on these ancient warriors I shall quote from Ken’s publicity material:

‘Parthians were of Scythian origin and fought both for, and against, the Greeks. They conquered an empire from Armenia to Afghanistan and also clashed repeatedly with their Western neighbour Rome, as Roman leaders sought new lands to conquer East. The Parthian horse archers tried not be close contact troops. Their strategy was to charge the enemy face on, in this case the Greek phalanx, and from a distance of about 100 yards start launching arrows. They would then ride up to about 20 yards from the phalanx firing along the line before turning the horse backwards, and then riding back to their base shooting arrows to the rear. They would then continue to repeat this move again and again, gradually wearing down the enemy.’

Ken’s latest figures represent three archers doing exactly this, one firing as he approaches the phalanx, one firing as he turns in front of the enemy and one firing as he retreats back to ‘base’. All three figures are well sculpted and painted and are priced at £42/$65 each.
