W. Britain event & new range

Article taken from 'Noticeboard'

The evening of Friday November 30, 2007, saw the third annual W. Britain Collectors Club event held in central London and second time the event has been held at the Guards Museum, Wellington Barracks.

The evening started at 6.30pm and the guests arrived under a veil of light rain, however the typical December rain did not seem to dampen the enthusiasm of those in attendance. The company’s new Zulu War Rorke’s Drift Hospital and matt finish Zulu War figures were on view for the first time and certainly created quite a buzz during the first hour of the event. Champagne and wine were on hand to wash down a variety of canapés as collectors stodd around chatting amongst themselves and with the W. Britain team about the company’s latest releases and plans for 2008.

At 7.30pm everyone headed out to the courtyard of the museum, under a large marquee, where an 18th Century Guards band put on a wonderful 20 minute program playing period pieces. After the music, various members of the W. Britain staff, along with Andrew Wallis, curator of the Guards Museum, and Zulu War historian and author Ian Knight gave brief talks. The crowd of about 160 then headed back down to the museum for another all too short hour of refreshment and conversation. At 9.30pm the evening ended with attendees picking up their ‘goody’ bag of a Christmas card, book mark and special figure of a Coldstream Guard Drummer, 1815 (a 300 piece limited edition made exclusively for those who bought tickets to the event).

I am reliably informed that plans are already underway for the 2008 event, and as soon as I get any confirmed details I will print them here, one thing Richard Walker did ask me to point out is that you do not have to be a W. Britain club member to attend these events. To get on the mailing list for the next event simply contact: The W. Britain Collectors Club, PO Box 778, Southwater, Horsham, West Sussex, RH12 9BL. Tel/Fax: 01403 733988. www.wbritaincollectorsclub.com.

News also came in from W. Britain just prior to us printing this issue regarding its new single figure range. As many collectors of W. Britain figures will know it launched a range of single gloss figures ‘The Redcoats’ around two years ago and as this range has proved so popular the company is now starting a new series of single matt figures. The range currently appears to be called ‘British Regiments Series’ and initially features members of The Black Watch from across history. No further details are available as yet but I’m sure we’ll have a full review on these figures in a forthcoming issue.
