First Legion Ltd - William- the Prince of Orange and Lord Uxbridge

Review taken from 'New Releases Part 2'

The second and third mounted personalities in this range concentrate on two of the principal leaders from the opposite side of the Waterloo battlefield and feature the much maligned William, Prince of Orange, Commander of the 1st Corps of the Anglo-Allied Army at Waterloo and Lord Uxbridge, Commander of the Cavalry Reserve.

The Prince of Orange, criticised by some throughout history for his many mistakes on that fateful day, is mounted on his favourite stead and he’s immaculately turned out as befits a future Monarch and a senior member of a Royal Household. I was fortunate to see an advanced image of this particular figure and did not think that it could be improved upon, but having now seen the production images of this figure and an example of it at ‘close quarters’ I have to say that the finished figure, and the horse in particular, are outstanding! The Prince is depicted with a telescope in his hand which no doubt affords him a better view of the fortunes of his troops as the battle unfolds before him. In contrast Uxbridge is turned slightly in the saddle and could be in the process of reviewing his troops prior to them engaging with the enemy. As I have come to expect from First Legion the attention to detail is second to none with all the intricate buttons and beading etc. on both the uniforms, and the ornate horse furniture, being faithfully reproduced to give a truly accurate picture of each individual.

Given the initial success of the first figure in this range, NAP0167 General Edouard Colbert, First Legion now have serious plans to expand this series over the coming months to give the collector the opportunity to acquire a wide variety of the most beautifully uniformed personalities of the Napoleonic Wars. Like Colbert, both of these new releases are limited edition pieces with only 150 of Orange and 180 of Uxbridge being produced, so make sure that you get your order placed as soon as possible as these figures should be shipping in late September 2009 and will no doubt sell out almost immediately. NAP0168 William Prince of Orange retails at $139.95 while NAP0174 Lord Uxbridge is priced at $159.95, both are subject to the usual post and packing charges.

This series is proving to be an enjoyable endeavour for the company, so expect the range to be added to on a regular basis over the coming months. The next figure in the series is due to be Orlov-Denisov from Borodino, an image of this figure can already be viewed on the ‘Workbench’ section of the First Legion website. Finally, if you haven’t already, then make sure you read Rob Hendrie’s interview with Matt Pavone, the man behind First Legion, earlier on in this issue!
