Toy Soldier Collector Shenandoah Miniatures - New ACW matt range

Shenandoah Miniatures - New ACW matt range

Review taken from 'New Releases Part 1'

I remember when I first saw a set of Shenandoah figures, which must be around 10 years ago now. It was when I worked on another magazine and Paul Clarke, owner of Shenandoah Miniatures, sent us a set for review. A the time Paul was really only known for his ACW kits within the modelling fraternity and these were his first ‘toe in the water’ within our ready painted hobby. Honestly the figures were, and in fact still are, some of the best gloss ACW figures I have seen. It was no surprise that very quickly Paul’s gloss offerings grew as he started offering more and more of his detailed kits as ready painted sets of gloss toy soldiers.

Over the past couple of year’s Paul and Shenandoah brand have been fairly quiet, and as Paul told me recently he had been concentrating on making new figures for the modelling hobby whilst also working on a new idea. The idea as it turned out was bring out a range of painted matt finished figures for us collectors, and yet again Paul has surpassed all expectations.

As you can see from these images his new range of singles and sets painted in matt are really stunning, and with the little touches such as using scenic grass etc. on the bases these figures are way ahead of the mass market competition. However Paul is still very much a small operation and does everything himself, and therefore I’m afraid prices aren’t quite comparable to the larger makers. Single figures retail for around $80 Australian (approx. £41 or $67 US) and sets very but can be up to $520 Australian (approx. £268 or $434 US).

If I were to sum up these new matt figures by Shenandoah I would honestly say they are the best I have seen outside of Russia however they will no doubt be too costly for many with a price tag around double that of many of the China based producers. If you want the best quality and price is not an issue then look to either Russian makers or Shenandoah to help you build your ACW army.
