Dorset Soldiers - Naval Division (or Brigade) in WWI

Review taken from 'Casting Around'

The 63rd (Royal Naval) Division of the New Army was formed at the outbreak of WWI, largely from reserves of the Royal Navy not needed at sea. The division took part in defending Antwerp in 1914 before moving to Egypt and then serving at Gallipoli. By the end of the Dardanelles campaign, casualties meant that it no longer contained significant numbers of naval servicemen and in 1916 it replaced the disbanded 63rd (2nd Northumbrian) Division and moved to the Western Front in France for the rest of the war.

Giles Brown has added three new figures representing the Naval Division (or Brigade) in WWI to his extensive range of naval figures. There is a figure keeling, one advancing and one crawling or climbing a ladder. These were originally produced for an enthusiastic customer of Giles’ naval items and have now been added to the catalogue, with several potential arm variations including those shown here to ring the changes. The range may be expanded if they generate enough interest from other customers.

Dorset soldiers measure 54mm approx. Naval Division castings cost £3.50 each (£9.50 painted gloss). Giles sets a minimum value of £10.00 for all orders.

Giles’ website has been updated with lots of new castings and several new pages of painted figures, including the expanding English Civil War range (there’s even an ECW fife and drum band), new naval figures and other new bands. Anyone wanting their catalogue updated, please contact Giles.
